(Music) Bio
Out of the Nutshell, A Tree Growed Tall...
Baltimore
I moved to Baltimore in 2000 — and set my eyes on creating a computer-based, home recording studio.
Peabody Conservatory (Johns Hopkins) was offering "Mastering Digital Performer" (MOTU's non-linear-editing program).
I immediately signed up. Hard work, but worth every penny.
The instructor, a working musician herself, got the class access to a master producer recording an album in a DC studio at the time. Quite an experience to watch the recording process in action.
When a friend in London got married, I pushed myself to create a composition for her that not only stretched my musical horizons, and which also required me to dive into Digital Performer as never before.
The result: the 17-minute-long "Alone • Meeting • Dancing • Moonlight" — and my first ever serious use of samples.
By the time a good friend got married at the Museum of Pop Art in Seattle, my non-linear-editing (NLE) confidence was settling in.
"Just the Beginning" was written for his wedding, in the best Annie Lennox style I could muster — his wife loves Annie Lennox.
In Baltimore, I made two independent full-length feature films, The Mystery at Grace & St. Peter's and A Dragon with Wings.
Among other responsibilities: pulling the music together for both projects.
See movie posters below.
"This Time" was my first Peabody NLE project "“due in 2 weeks.".
A steep learning curve to the sure, but a good way to learn.
