When It All Falls Together
Music & lyrics, 1993
I am caught in the chaos
The face of God at every step I take
Darkness, silence, resistance
In the realm of the living, the land of the dead
I’ve seen my own execution
Everything I am dying to the heart
Why now, amidst such confusion?
Coming together as I’m torn apart
Lost now, the journey forgotten
Shattered images, a desert plain
No shade, no water, no ocean
I’ve lost my soul running from the pain
Vision! Dream! Called to the Goddess
I knew your heart before I looked in your eyes
“Shadow begone! This woman, her essence
“The infinite, the intimate — Do you choose life?”
That’s when it all falls together
That’s when the moon is in your eyes
That’s when my body surrenders
And all that’s dead in me comes alive
That’s when I look to tomorrow
That’s when I feel you with me deep inside
That’s when the Goddess of Sorrow
Knows she is honored, and releases us to life
Thirty years, a dance without mirrors
A dance of solitude, deep wounds
Yet still alight in the darkness the embers
A piece of the beginning, God’s first move
Diana’s gift, a glimpse of a woman
Born of earth, a heart of fire
Moving fast, still as the morning
“What do you want? What do you desire?”
To dance for a woman of moonlight
A woman with a drum, a cat, a star
To give blood after midnight
The open wounds, an open heart
Lightening! Pain! Nothing is easy
Dashed against the rocks of fate, of time
To live the path so completely
I choose to make this sacrifice
That’s when it all falls together
That’s when the moon is in your eyes
That’s when my body surrenders
And all that’s dead in me comes alive
That’s when I look to tomorrow
That’s when I feel you with me deep inside
That’s when the Goddess of Sorrow
Knows she is honored, and releases us to life
When it all falls together
