Of the Sun & Moon
Music, 1981 • Words, 1982
I’ve been looking for a woman
With a heart of gold
A soul
And a piece of the earth
I never thought I’d set eyes on her
I thought I’d spend my days
Searching in vain
When evening came
I saw you standing there
Touching me
Loving me
So quietly
The sun cried, “You’ve got to leave her alone”
But the moon said,
“The heart’s got to rule the head!”
Too many people
Look to the sun
To light their day
To guide their way
Too many people
Stand alone
As their bodies burn away
If they only knew
The moon’s a lover
Not the lunatic’s demise
We’d all be standing in
The softer light of dream
I know the ways of the sun are heartless
Listen to the letter of the law
And obey
But I’m a child of the moon
And I follow
The sound of the wind
The song of the waves
I know it’s wrong to let myself love you
It’s wrong of me to even
Contemplate the idea
But I can’t help it when I find
You’re in every dream
And every fantasy my heart can conceive
Too many people
Look to the sun
To light their day
To guide their way
Too many people
Stand alone
As their bodies burn away
If they only knew
The moon’s a lover
Not the lunatic’s demise
We’d all be standing in
The softer light of dream
