If You Want to Get Ahead

If you wonder which
I never do
What everybody is
Thinking of you
You’ll end up going
Soft in the head
You’ll never get ahead

You’ve got to be
A decisive chap — like me!
To put your name
On the map — you see!
You’ll make a few enemies
Before you’re dead
If you want to get ahead

So what if I’m crazy
And what if I’m mean
So I’ve done a few dirty deals
A man’s got to take care
Of Number One first
No matter what others may feel

When I think of all
The people I’ve wronged
I can’t sleep at night
And so I take a very strong
Sleeping tablet
And I hope there’s
No God up there
I’ve forgotten how
To say my prayers!

So what if I’m crazy
And what if I’m mean
So I’ve done a few dirty deals
A man’s got to take care
Of Number One first
No matter what others may feel

If you want to get ahead
